As do its sedan and SportCombi wagon brethren, the Saab 9-3 Convertible comes in 2.0T and Aero flavours. The former is powered by a smooth, torquey 210-hp, 2.0-litre turbo “four” with 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. The Aero has a 250-hp, 2.8-litre turbo V6 and its optional automatic is a 6-speed. The 9-3 remains a well-executed convertible. There are also the requisite Saab quirks, like that ignition down on the centre console. For 2007, the interior has a thorough makeover featuring a new automatic climate control and “infotainment” systems, and a larger instrument cluster with chrome details. A decent performer, the only thing that really holds the car back from BMW/Mercedes cachet is its front-wheel-drive setup.
